From The Deep Hearts Core RIOT Sligo 2021
From the Deep Heart’s core is a concept film, which examines if the river Garavogue in Sligo could become a natural amphitheatre for cultural activity in Sligo. The film was devised and produced by Yeats Society Sligo as part of Sligo County Council’s RIOT:Sligo conference, discussing the role culture plays in the reimagining of towns.
Five creatives tell why they believe the concept is worth considering and how it could also work to make cultural activities more open and available to new audience, as well as the outdoor space being more accessible to younger and emerging performers and artists.
Sligo is a flourishing centre for the arts; including the Garavogue, with all its alternative spaces, will create a hub for the town. Just as creativity flows through Sligo, so does our river. That natural harmony between living landscape and deep rooted culture should inspire locals and visitors alike.
