One hundred years ago, on November 14th, WB Yeats became the first Irish person to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Yeats Society Sligo is delighted to host My Numberless Dreams… My Passionate Rhyme, a three-day poetry event taking place in Sligo between November 30th and December 2nd.
The event is part of a wider programme, designed by Yeats Society Sligo, in partnership with other organisations and institutions to mark the Centenary of the award to WB Yeats of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923. This programme, honouring the poet, is the closing event of the Official Decade of Centenaries, funded and organised by Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht and Media, on behalf of the Government of Ireland.

As part of the official Decade of Centenaries, local libraries across Ireland will share the news, and the story, with the next generation of Ireland’s writers and poets – and all who feel inspired by the global poet, Yeats.

Nora Niland was a founding member of Yeats Society Sligo in 1960. The annual Nora Niland lecture marks her contribution and her generosity and the impact she made on Sligo culture.
The 2023 talk was delivered by Eily Kilgannon, who has had a lifelong love of the work of WB Yeats.
The Yeats Building in the heart of Sligo is a hub for literary culture and the arts. We have a permanent Yeats exhibition and the Hyde Bridge Gallery on the first floor offers a range of contemporary exhibitions. In 2024, we will offer the 65th Yeats International Summer School – the longest-running literary summer school in the world.
Ghosts, Sausages, and a Dining Room Table, is a short play designed to explain to young people the significance of WB Yeats’ Nobel Prize award,100 years ago, in 1923.
The play is written by Eva Joyce.
