62nd Yeats International Summer School 2021
We are delighted to launch the programme for the 62nd Yeats International Summer School.
For the first time in its distinguished history, the School will be delivered online, offering lectures and seminars on a weekly basis between June and August.
We appreciate that many visitors will miss the opportunity to visit Yeats’ Land of Heart’s Desire – Sligo – and we hope to be back in person in 2022, making people welcome to this beautiful place, which is so steeped in Yeats and his family. However, as is our custom, we are delivering a very high level of academic lectures and talks.
We believe that the weekly delivery of lectures will encourage a wider audience to get involved and attend what will be an engaging and challenging programme. There are also four weekend seminars to allow students a deeper exploration of Yeatsian work.
We aim to deliver a number of in person events in Sligo between 29th-31st July, depending on Government Covid-19 advice at that time.

Dr Joseph Hassett will be delivering the opening lecture for the 62nd Yeats International Summer School – the first ever online School. The title of Dr Hassett’s address is: Yeats Now: Poems for Today.
Dr Hassett is a dear friend of the school and has attended many times. Dr Hassett is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He is also an Anglo-Irish literary scholar, and has written about both Yeats and Joyce. His new book Yeats Now: Echoing into Life has been very well received and brings a fresh and compelling reevaluation of how the work of our national poet, WB Yeats remains relevant to our everyday lives and emotions. Professor Roy Foster, biographer of WB Yeats, who will also speak at this year’s school has described Dr Hassett’s latest work as “a personal, quizzical, imaginative testament that ranges through Yeats’s thought and writings.”
The lecture will be delivered live on Facebook on Thursday 17th June at 6pm.

Those hoping to attend seminars must also attend at least five lectures. Students may attend only one seminar.
