If you’ve always wanted to write but didn’t know where to start or if you have been writing a while but are unsure how to progress, this 6-week course is designed especially for you!
Learn how to generate ideas and turn them into stories, novels, plays, memoirs, or poems - how to develop characters, settings, dialogue, & structure plot - use imagery, rhythm, rhyme, & other poetic techniques.
Writing - From First Draft to Final Draft
Every Wednesday, 7 March – 11 April
This course has been designed for all levels of writers and all writing genres – fiction, non-fiction, poetry. From week to week you will write new stories and poems and learn the process of developing them from rough drafts to finished drafts. You will be shown how to prepare your writing for submission to magazines and publishers for the best chance of publication success.
Friendly and informal -a mix of discussion, instruction and writing exercises with individual guidance.

Instructor: Gerard Beirne has been teaching writing for 25 years – recently 8 years at a Canadian University. A highly experienced literary magazine editor, he has published 6 books of fiction and poetry. A past winner of the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award, he was shortlisted for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award, The Danuta Gleed Literary Award, & the Bord Gais Irish Book Awards. His short story, Sightings of Bono, was adapted as a short film featuring Bono (U2).
